Exploring Tasmania: Must-Visit Spots

Welcome to Tasmania – where rugged landscapes, world-class food, and unique experiences are a must. Whether you're soaking in breathtaking views, indulging in local delicacies, or uncovering hidden gems, Tasmania offers something for everyone. I’ve been to Tassie 5 times now and also have asked many good friends and locals for their best tips. Here they are

Hobart Highlights

Ferry to MONA: MONA is a must. Start by hopping on the ferry to MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) from Brooke Street Pier in Hobart. The ferry itself is an experience, with funky décor and a scenic cruise along the Derwent River. MONA is not your average museum – it's bold, provocative, and totally worth a visit. Hot Tip: Get the Posh Pit booking on the boat.

Franklin: If you’re after an unforgettable dining experience, Franklin is a must. With locally-sourced ingredients and innovative dishes, it’s one of the best meals you’ll find in Tasmania. It’s a little spenny, but absolutely worth the splurge.

Society: For the cocktail lovers, Society is the place to be. This fresh, modern cocktail bar serves up delicious drinks in a chic setting – the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring.

Salamanca Market: Held every Saturday, Salamanca Market is one of Hobart's most iconic attractions. While it leans towards the touristy side, it's still fun to wander through the stalls, sample local produce, and pick up unique souvenirs.

Ettie's: This charming wine bar in the heart of Hobart is perfect for wine enthusiasts. Pair your favorite glass with some delightful nibbles and relax in their warm and inviting atmosphere.

Pigeon Hole Bakery: This cozy bakery is known for its artisan bread and fresh pastries. Stop by for a quick bite or a takeaway treat to enjoy on your adventures.

The Agrarian Kitchen: A beautiful spot for lunch, The Agrarian Kitchen offers farm-to-table dining with seasonal, locally-sourced produce. A must-visit for food lovers.

Kunanyi (Mount Wellington): For jaw-dropping panoramic views, head to the top of Kunanyi. Whether you catch the sunrise or sunset, the sweeping vistas of Hobart and the surrounding areas will leave you in awe. Pack a jacket – it gets chilly up there!

Snug Falls: Just a 20-minute drive from Hobart, followed by a short 20-minute walk, Snug Falls is a tranquil spot worth visiting. The peaceful forest walk leads to a picturesque waterfall – an ideal place for a quiet nature escape.

Beyond Hobart: More Tassie Gems

Bruny Island: A short ferry ride from Kettering, Bruny Island is a foodie's paradise. Sample the local cheese, oysters, and honey while soaking in stunning coastal views. Don’t miss the Neck Lookout for panoramic vistas of the isthmus.

Port Arthur: Dive into Tasmania's rich (and sometimes eerie) history with a visit to the UNESCO-listed Port Arthur Historic Site. Take the ghost tour if you dare!

Wineglass Bay: Nestled in Freycinet National Park, Wineglass Bay is famous for its crystal-clear waters and white sand beaches. Hike up to the lookout for an unforgettable view or take a boat cruise around the bay.

Cradle Mountain: An outdoor lover's dream, Cradle Mountain offers iconic hikes through breathtaking alpine landscapes. The Dove Lake Circuit is an easy but stunning walk, while the summit hike is a rewarding challenge for the adventurous.

Tasmanian Wineries

Pooley Wines: My absolute fave! Also located in Richmond (25 minutes from Hobart), Pooley Wines boasts a castle-like setting and premium cool-climate wines. Ideal for those wanting a touch of elegance with their wine tasting.

Home Hill Winery: Located just 33 minutes from Hobart, Home Hill Winery offers a serene outdoor setting surrounded by lush greenery. Perfect for a leisurely afternoon of wine tasting.

Frogmore Creek Winery: Just a 17-minute drive from Hobart, Frogmore Creek is a grand winery with a majestic feel. Enjoy their award-winning wines while soaking in the vineyard views.

Puddleduck Vineyard: Situated on a peaceful lake in Richmond, Puddleduck Vineyard is a charming, family-owned winery just 21 minutes from Hobart. It’s a must-visit for a relaxed tasting experience.
